This afternoon we enjoyed the sunshine by taking a walk round Abernethy in Perthshire. We started off at the Tower which is one of only two remaining Irish Celtic style round towers left in Scotland. We then continued up Kirk Wynd which led onto Witches Road which we later learned, according to local legend is named after a coven of 22 women who were tried for being witches on Abernethy Hill! The path continues through beautiful woodland with views across the glen to Castle Law. You can walk to the top of Castle Law where you will find the remains of an Iron Age Fort. It is all very well signposted but if you don’t wish to walk to the top you can walk through Abernethy Glen which will lead you back to the village.
After our walk we had built up quite an appetite so headed for AliBob at Cairn O’Mohr located in Errol. I have heard many good things about AliBob’s and we were not disappointed! We were greeted by the lovely Ali who instantly made a big fuss over Baxter which he loved. He was given the biggest doggy biscuit which I think he has ever seen! Even on the hottest of days I love a bowl of soup so right away knew what I was going to have! The chicken and sweetcorn soup was the best chicken soup I’ve tasted and came in a big bowl which made me even happier. I’ve been trying to behave and not have too many sweet treats recently but then I spotted the chocolate truffles and I’m so pleased I did! It was a superb wee treat to go with my cup of tea and Laurie demolished one of their homemade scones with jam.
We chatted a bit with Ali from the cafe and like me she is a massive animal lover. It’s definitely one of the best dog friendly places I’ve visited. Their menu Is fab and I noticed they have gluten free and vegan options. We all loved it there and Baxter even made pals with Jasper, the cat, as we were leaving.
I can see us being regulars here!
